How did Marian Pearson Stevens start writing…
Did it stem from a desire to write from age five? A Masters in Literature obtained from an Ivy League School? No. Not quite. Stretched out on an antique bench, beneath a magnificent hundred year old oak, soaking in a perfectly brilliant summer day as she devoured both a book and chocolate bon bons . . . Marian took pen to paper and effortlessly composed a New York Times bestseller.
NOT! No, not even close . . .
Okay, here’s the real skinny and much less glamorous account. Sleep deprived, bordering on zombie-ness, with a new baby who refused to sleep for any respectable stint, out of sheer desperation for a diversion to remain sane, Marian picked up a romance novel . . . and hasn’t let go since! Hopelessly hooked, before long she started thinking maybe she’d try her hand at this . . .
Writing a novel length book of fiction would prove to be one of the most daunting challenges she ever tackled -- a completely unpredictable roller coaster, yet a wild, remarkable ride within an unbelievably close-knit industry where she’s connected with some amazing individuals, many of whom have become very dear friends. Who wouldn’t love a world comprised of incredibly talented best-selling authors, savvy literary agents and brilliant editors from grand, big-dog publishing houses? More than anything, though, telling a story -- writing, tapped into something within Marian that soon became a lifeline, an outlet for a passion that ran deeper than she imagined possible. Along with that desire grew the hope to connect with readers like herself.
She joined Romance Writers of America, the largest writer’s group in the world, and hasn’t looked back.
A graduate from the University of Texas and lifelong Texan, Marian calls central Texas home.
